The alternator (generator) or stator is a component that generates electrical current and ultimately activates electrical components such as the battery and lighting. It is located on the side of the engine and is protected by the alternator cover. The stator consists of coils with copper wire and is housed in the magnetic flywheel that is connected to the crankshaft. When the crankshaft is moving, the flywheel also starts to turn and an electrical current is generated this way. This flow depends on the crankshaft. The higher the speed, the more power is generated. Ultimately, the current is passed to the regulator which converts the alternating current to direct current and keeps the battery from overloading. A pick-up is often attached to the stator that records information from the RPM, which is crucial to the ignition process.
