The cooling fan is part of the cooling system and is mounted on the radiator. The combustion process releases a lot of heat and without cooling the engine will quickly overheat. To prevent the engine from getting too hot, coolant is pumped through the engine block by means of a water pump. The warm coolant enters the top of the radiator and flows down small tubes. The coolant is cooled by airflow, in combination with fins on the radiator to increase the cooling surface, and pumped back to the engine block. When the motorcycle moves slowly or stops frequently, there is not enough airflow to cool and a little help is needed. As soon as the temperature starts to rise too high, the cooling fan is activated and when the temperature has stabilized again, the fan switches off again.
